In celebration of the National Day of Tereza de Benguela and the International Day of Latin American and Caribbean Black Women, celebrated on July 25, the Casa das Pretas Cultural Center and the Institute of Black Women of Mato Grosso (IMUNE-MT) promote a special free program aimed at valuing Afro-Brazilian culture, black entrepreneurship and female ancestry.

In celebration of the National Day of Tereza de Benguela and the International Day of Latin American and Caribbean Black Women, celebrated on July 25, the Casa das Pretas Cultural Center and the Institute of Black Women...
The activities will take place throughout the day at Casa das Pretas, located in Praça da Mandioca, in the Historic Center of Cuiabá, bringing together gastronomy, creative economy, music and cultural events.
The program begins at 8:30 am with Café Afro, which will mark the official launch of the Quitute das Pretas project, an initiative aimed at strengthening Afro-Brazilian gastronomy and generating income for black women. The project has support from the State Secretariat for Culture, Sports and Leisure (Secel-MT) and financial support from parliamentary amendments from the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso (ALMT) and should begin its activities at the end of August.
According to the president of IMUNE-MT, Antonieta Costa, the proposal seeks to strengthen the economic autonomy of black women through traditional knowledge transmitted between generations. "Afro-Brazilian cuisine carries history, identity and resistance. Quitute das Pretas was born to value this knowledge and create opportunities for women who transform tradition into work, income and belonging", he highlights.
In the evening, from 6pm onwards, Praça da Mandioca hosts the Casa das Pretas Cultural Fair, bringing together crafts, gastronomy, fashion, literature and creative economy products produced by local entrepreneurs. Exhibitors will be able to access the space from 4pm to set up their stands, using tents, tables and chairs provided by the organization.
Closing the activities, the female group Sas Minina takes the stage at 7:30 pm for a samba circle open to the public. The presentation promises to bring together classics of the genre and celebrate the strength of black women through music and popular culture.
The date honors the quilombola leader Tereza de Benguela, symbol of black resistance in colonial Brazil, and is also recognized internationally as a landmark for reflection on the rights, visibility and protagonism of black women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
For the organizers, the program seeks not only to celebrate the date, but also to expand the debate on racial equality, memory, culture and opportunities for the black population in Mato Grosso.
