Actor Ryan Gosling has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the new Ghost Rider, after one of the most shocking revelations at San Diego Comic-Con. During the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, 2026, journalist Josh Horowitz recalled fans' years-long campaign to see Gosling play the antihero. Marvel boss Kevin Feige joked that just because the lights went out during a discussion of Ghost Rider rumors years ago didn't mean anything. Moments later, the lights went out again, the sound of a motorcycle engine echoed through the room, and Gosling appeared on the stage standing up, earning a huge ovation from the audience.

The 45-year-old Oscar-nominated actor will play Ghost Rider in a new Marvel solo film directed by Shawn Levy, who previously helmed 'Deadpool & Wolverine' (2024). Gosling told the crowd that the flaming antihero is a character he's wanted to play "for a long time." The premiere is scheduled for 2028.
Ghost Rider was previously played on screen by Nicolas Cage in the 2007 film and 2011 sequel. In a fun coincidence, Gosling's longtime companion, actress Eva Mendes, starred alongside Cage in the original Ghost Rider film.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a franchise of superhero films and series produced by Marvel Studios. Movies have, of course, been full of superstars for years. And no other production company can boast a cast like that of Marvel films. Plus, there are so many cameos that it's hard to keep track. And sometimes it's even difficult to see everyone!
