Former Record journalist writes farewell letter online

Elian, who had been experiencing depression for a few years and had already reported suicide attempts, wrote about the emotional suffering, health problems and difficulties experienced in recent years. The journalist had also recently been fired from a job. After the publication of the letter, Elian began to be sought out by family members, while friends reported apprehension and concern at not being able to contact him. The police were also called and are searching for his whereabouts.

In the publication, Elian said that he had planned to say goodbye to those close to him, but stated that he was unable to complete the message earlier due to emotion. He also spoke about the period in which he had to deal with treatments and highlighted a feeling of tiredness in the face of the situations he experienced.

"Today I rested. I confess that I wanted to say goodbye to all of you, but when I picked up the cell phone in my hand my voice broke and the crying came. I couldn't and I apologize for that. It took four years of combining medications, pretending happiness and a pain in my chest that begged for rest. Today it arrived", he wrote.

Throughout the text, the journalist cited episodes of harassment that he claims to have suffered during his professional career, in addition to mentioning moments of injustice and difficulties faced. Elian also left messages of thanks and affection for family, friends and people who, according to him, tried to help him during this period.

The communicator also made an appeal related to the treatment of people facing health problems and mentioned an old working relationship when remembering his time at Record.

Case involving Record

Elian Matte became known for reporting an alleged case of sexual harassment involving a former Human Resources director at Record. The journalist stated that he had been the victim of inappropriate behavior during the period he worked at the station and also claimed to have been fired while he was undergoing health treatment.

The complaint generated a legal dispute. In 2024, the court ordered the journalist's reinstatement to the station's staff, but the decision was later reversed. The case also had developments involving the former director mentioned by Elian, who responded to an investigation related to the accusations presented by the journalist.
