'Everything I do today is thinking about my children', says João Gomes

He doesn't brag about it. You know it's normal, and your family gave you that example. "I chose to be a father, and that was one of the decisions that made me mature the most as a man", says the singer from Pernambuco, who turns 24 on the 31st. He states that he decided to live in Recife to spend more time with his children, take them to school, live life with them.

Revealed nationally in 2021, with the success of the song "Eu Tem a Senha", the singer, who this Friday (24) was diagnosed with influenza and had to cancel shows, divides his routine between presentations, advertising campaigns and family. He and his wife, Ary Mirelle, are also parents to Joaquim, who was born in September 2025.

Today, João stars in Riachuelo's Father's Day campaign with, pardon the cliché, "a place to speak". In conversation with the reporter, he gives details about family life and the boys' upbringing.

QUESTION - You became a father very young and today you have two children. What did the arrival of the children mean to you?

JOÃO GOMES - I chose to be a father, and that was one of the decisions that made me mature the most as a man. I always worked hard, but I missed having that family life that I had in my childhood. Today, together with Ary, my wife, we build this feeling of family with the boys, of being present and living every moment with them.

Q - Has fatherhood changed the way you see life and your career priorities?

JG - Fatherhood completely changed my mind and the way I organize my schedule, so much so that I decided to live in Recife to make my travels easier and be able to spend more time at home. Everything I do today is also thinking about my children. It's a great feeling to be building a legacy for them.

Q - Many people say that having children changes the way they compose and present themselves to the public. Has fatherhood influenced your music or the way you approach success?

JG - It had too much influence. I usually say that there are three Joãos: the João before all this happened, the singing João, who lives on stages and projects, and the old João, who one day will be alone with Ary and the children, enjoying everything he has built. Fatherhood made me understand that success is important, but it is not the final destination. The most valuable thing is the family you build along the way and the memories you leave behind.

Q - How do you find the balance between public life and life as a father?

JG - It's still a challenge. Today my career goes far beyond shows. I am also involved in projects related to culture, advertising and other initiatives that take up a lot of time. I understand that this phase is temporary and necessary. We are building very important things for music and culture in our country.

Even so, we have already started to make some changes so that I can be more present with the boys. One example is that a large part of advertising campaigns are now produced in Recife. This way, I can spend more time at home and, for example, take Jorge to and from school.

Furthermore, this change also strengthens an idea that I strongly believe in: Recife is already a powerhouse in cinema and can increasingly be a reference in advertising as well.

Q - You participate in Riachuelo's Father's Day campaign. What was it like bringing your own experience to this project?

JG - It's very special. My grandmother took me shopping for clothes there on special occasions. In the pieces they create for me, they make a point of highlighting the work of embroiderers, artisans and so many people who keep the handmade tradition alive. This makes everything have even more meaning, because it speaks to my story and what I believe in.
