Voepass flight that killed 62 people could not have taken off, says Cenipa

She was traveling from Cascavel (PR) to Guarulhos Airport (SP). The release of the report took place this Thursday (23) in Brasília.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Froes, the investigator in charge of the incident, the aircraft had ten items on the minimum equipment list, one of which was the inoperative windshield wiper.

In order for the plane to fly with this breakdown, the regulations required that there was no forecast of rain one hour before and one hour after the scheduled takeoff time, as well as for landing at the destination or alternative.

However, weather conditions created an unfavorable environment.

"The aircraft could not have been dispatched at that time due to the windshield wiper failure," he said.

The accident occurred on August 9, 2024, when the aircraft on flight 2283, carrying 58 passengers and four crew members, crashed in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo.

Leaving Cascavel (PR), the ATR 72-500 was preparing to land in Guarulhos, turning slightly to the right, when it suddenly changed direction and banked strongly to the left. Data released shows constant warnings of ice formation, loss of speed and systems being activated by pilots to try to overcome the situation.

After the accident, Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency) revoked, without the possibility of appeal, Voepass' license, not directly due to the accident, but due to the company's inability to correct flaws highlighted in previous inspections.
