Residents realized that the animal was injured and called the Nautical Group of the Metropolitan Civil Guard. During the incident, agents found the arrow still attached to the capybara's body.
It is suspected that the injury was caused during an attempt to illegally hunt wild animals. The case must be investigated by the responsible authorities.
After being removed from the dam, the capybara was sent to the Center for Management and Conservation of Wild Animals, CEMACAS. There, it will be examined and monitored by a team of biologists.
The animal is expected to be returned to the wild after completing treatment and being able to return to its habitat.
The Environmental Civil Guard reported that it will expand inspection actions in the area. The patrolling will be carried out in partnership with GCM's nautical teams, with the aim of locating those involved and preventing further attacks on the region's fauna.
