(UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - Virginia, 27, announced a break from social media after her two daughters, Maria Alice, 5, and Maria Flor, 3, underwent surgery.

Maria Flor and Maria Alice underwent surgery to remove their tonsils and adenoids. The surgeries were already scheduled, were carried out and "everything went as planned". There is no forecast for an increase yet. The information comes from the Virginia press office.

"Today Marias had tonsil and adenoid surgery. Thank God, everything went well, it went as expected and was a success", declared Virginia.

Virginia announced that she will stay away from social media to monitor her daughters' recovery. "To follow the 'post' closely and give all the affection (the way they deserve), I'm going to stay offline until their medical discharge. During that time, I'm going to take everything off just for them, zero pressure, just wanting to stay close, really. Kisses, I love you and see you later, God willing," he wrote.

In January, Virginia had already said that the two girls had a medical recommendation and would undergo the procedure. "They both snore a lot because they both have very large tonsils and adenoids. In fact, this year, surgery is going to happen, because the doctor has already recommended it. It's bothering them. Flo wakes up all night," he said.

Tonsils and adenoids are part of the immune system. The tonsils are two structures located at the back of the throat that help fight viruses and bacteria. The adenoid is located behind the nose, in a region called the nasopharynx, and also acts in the body's defense, especially during childhood.

When these structures increase in size or become infected recurrently, they can cause snoring and sleep apnea, as in the case of "Marias".

Other symptoms are frequent sore throat, difficulty breathing and ear infections. In these cases, doctors may recommend surgical removal of the tonsils, adenoids or both to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.

The procedure is called tonsillectomy with adenoidectomy and consists of removing the tonsils and adenoid under general anesthesia. The surgery is performed through the mouth, without external cuts. First, the surgeon removes the tonsils, located at the back of the throat. Then, he removes the adenoid, which is behind the nose, using specific instruments. In the end, the bleeding is controlled and the patient is sent to recovery, being discharged on the same day in most cases.
