A seaplane caught fire while making an emergency landing on Sucia Island, coastal Washington, in the United States. Four of the 11 people on the aircraft were seriously injured, one of them is in critical condition.

According to CNN Internacional, everything happened on Thursday and the reason why the plane had to make an emergency landing is still unknown.

Injuries to the passengers and pilot include injuries ranging from "head injuries to fractures and lacerations."

The aircraft took off at 4:30 am from Seattle (8:30 pm on Thursday in Brasília), and was supposed to land at the port of Roche Harbor, in the same North American state. The 160 km journey was going well until, 45 minutes later, the aircraft made an emergency landing.

Once rescued, the survivors were distributed: the four with the most serious injuries were divided into two hospitals and the remaining seven occupants were evaluated at a United States Coast Guard base, one of several forces involved in this operation.

"We are grateful that everyone on board has been located, and our immediate focus is to ensure our passengers and pilot receive the care and support they need," David Gudgel, CEO of Kenmore Air, said in a statement.
