“These attacks are aimed at further reducing Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that launched attacks against US military personnel in Jordan yesterday [Saturday] night,” he added.
Meanwhile, Iranian news agencies Mehr and Tasnim reported US attacks on Sirik, a port located across the Strait of Hormuz in the south of the country.
The official IRNA agency reported a “North American enemy military attack near Hajiabad”, in the same province as Hormozgan.
The Iranian army later announced that it had launched explosive drones against two military bases in Kuwait, according to state television.
Any US attack will face “a decisive and devastating response from the loyal, courageous and powerful fighters of the Iranian Armed Forces”, said, also according to state television, General Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Army.
“We will impose even higher costs on them” than in previous wars, he continued.
On Saturday, Centcom announced the death of two US soldiers — the first since the resumption of hostilities on July 7 — and the disappearance of a third, during “Iranian missile and drone attacks” on Friday, in Jordan.
The number of US military personnel killed since the start of the war at the end of February now stands at 16.
Hostilities have reached a new, unprecedented level since the ceasefire signed in April to end the war triggered by the Israeli-American offensive against Iran on February 28.
