Russia launches large-scale attack on Kiev and leaves dead

At least five people died after a large-scale attack launched by Russia against Kiev in the early hours of Monday (6). The offensive took place just hours after the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, warned of the possibility of new high-intensity bombings.

According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev Military Administration, a residential building partially collapsed in the Podilskyi district. In the Darnytskyi district, several buildings were hit, and residents are suspected of being trapped under the rubble.

"These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and led a normal life," said Tkachenko in a post on Telegram.

The attack involved successive waves of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones. During the night, explosions were recorded in different regions of the Ukrainian capital, while residents sought shelter in metro stations.

Hours before the offensive, Zelensky had warned of the possibility of a new major attack against Kiev. The bombing comes just days after another combined attack by Russia left at least 31 people dead in the Ukrainian capital.

After the new offensive, the president once again asked Western allies to reinforce Ukraine's air defense, especially by sending more Patriot missile systems. According to Zelensky, the delay in supplying weapons encourages Russia to prolong the conflict, which has already lasted more than four years.
