SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - At least 27 people died in a fire that hit a pub in Bangkok, capital of Thailand, on Sunday afternoon (12), early Monday morning local time. Another 63 people were hospitalized, of which 22...
The circumstances of the fire have not yet been clarified. According to Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, musicians performing at the venue said they saw smoke coming from a power panel near the stage. Then there was a blackout and an explosion.
In the early hours of Monday, local time, the police reported, in a post on social media, that the fire had been controlled.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt told reporters that the pub had all the necessary licenses to operate and had emergency exits.
At the scene of the tragedy, Anutin said that, according to reports from survivors, the environment was filled with smoke a few moments after the fire started, which made it difficult for people to escape. Many of the victims ran to the bathrooms at the back of the establishment, where there was no emergency exit.
Images posted on social media show flames of fire coming from the establishment, and dozens of people flee in despair.
According to the Sky News channel, the establishment is located in the Chatuchak district, one of the busiest areas of the Thai capital. Local media identified the pub as Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, described as a popular meeting place in the region.
