PSD announces former minister Aldo Rebelo as political coordinator of Caiado’s campaign

In a statement released in the early afternoon, the PSD said that Aldo Rebelo accepted the campaign's invitation in a meeting with party president Gilberto Kassab, candidate for Caiado's vice-president, and former senator Heráclito Fortes, political coordinator of the PSD.

"The choice of Aldo Rebelo reinforces the strategy of expanding dialogue with different segments of society and bringing together professionals with recognized experience in formulating proposals for the country", says the text.

Aldo Rebelo was with Caiado at the convention that made the former governor of Goiás' candidacy for President official, on Sunday (26). The former minister, who was part of the first echelon of the Lula and Dilma Rousseff governments, occupied a prominent position on the event stage.

At the beginning of the year, he announced his pre-candidacy for president for DC (Christian Democracy). Without taking off in the polls, he broke with the party president, João Caldas, after the party signaled that the former president of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Joaquim Barbosa would be the party's presidential candidate.

Aldo Rebelo was expelled from DC, but was reinstated to the party after taking legal action.

Earlier this week, Folha showed that pre-candidate Augusto Cury (Avante) was trying to attract DC to his ticket. The intention was to leave Aldo Rebelo as the candidate for vice president.

After years of membership in the PC do B, he became closer to Bolsonarism. In 2024, he was Secretary of International Relations at São Paulo City Hall and supported the re-election of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), already aligned with Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

In January this year, to Folha, Aldo Rebelo denied that Bolsonaro had tried to carry out a coup d'état, but avoided saying whether he would support Lula or Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in a possible second round in these elections.
