The São Paulo Civil Police is analyzing new images to try to clarify the death of lawyer Pedro Ely Cordeiro dos Santos, aged 43, which occurred on a street in Vila Madalena, in the west zone of the capital of São Paulo, on Friday, 10. After buying the drink, Pedro left the bar accompanied by a man in a white cap who he had met that same morning, at the club. The man has already been identified by the police and is expected to give a statement next Monday, the 20th. The police are trying to clarify what happened from the moment the lawyer leaves the bar accompanied by the suspect until the moment he was found feeling ill.
The "Good night, Cinderella" scam, which consists of doping the victim by adulterating a drink, may have happened within a 40-minute interval between one episode and the next. The investigations are still awaiting expert reports, including a toxicological examination, which will help clarify the causes of death.
Pedro was treated by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) on Rua Fradique Coutinho, in Pinheiros, after vomiting and falling to the ground, but he could not resist and died at the scene. Rescuers did not identify marks of violence on the lawyer's body. His wallet and cell phone were not found at the scene of the incident.
The new images obtained from witnesses show Pedro in an altered state, with his body bent over, and also the moment of assistance from the emergency team. According to the lawyer hired by Pedro's family, Marcelo Martins Ferreira, the suspect appears in the images, observing Samu's work. The videos were handed over by the defense to the Civil Police for analysis.
The lawyer also requested images of a 24-hour teller in the center of São Paulo, where there was an attempted transaction worth R$9,800 using the lawyer's credit card. The transaction was blocked by the bank before it was carried out, as it was considered suspicious. Ferreira states that the images should clarify the perpetrators of the crime.
According to the police reports, to which Estadão had access, the two went by car via app to Rua Canário, in Moema, in the south zone. The friend disembarked at the location around 12:48 am, while Pedro would go to a hotel in Vila Olímpia, also in the south zone, in another vehicle. According to the family lawyer, however, the app driver took him back to the Vila Madalena region.
Pedro was found without documents and, therefore, could not be immediately identified. The family reported him missing after losing contact. Identification only occurred on Tuesday, 14th, after a papilloscopic exam (fingerprints).
