Photographer dies after being run over during a rally in Spain

According to the newspaper La Nueva España, the accident happened in the early afternoon, in the town of Logrezana. The vehicle, a Ford driven by Antonio García, left the road and hit photographer Jorge Villa, 38 years old.

Emergency teams were called, but were unable to save the victim.

The pilot and co-pilot, Perla Gabriela Gómez, were taken to a hospital for observation after the accident. A few minutes later, the test was cancelled.

The organization of the event, in charge of Candás Competición, mourned the death in a statement published on social media.

"We deeply regret what happened in our race. We can be proud to work for this sport and its fans, but facts like this are difficult to assimilate. We want to thank the support and help shown by friendly teams, teams and fans. Rest in peace, Jorge", he wrote.

Emilio Carrasco, sporting director of the Automobile Federation of the Principality of Asturias, was following the rally at another point on the route and stated that the area where the photographer was had already been emptied by security teams.

"Security caravans passed through there and removed people from that place. There shouldn't have been anyone there," he said.

Also according to La Nueva España, the inspection of the public's positioning is carried out shortly before the competitors pass, during the circulation of the so-called “zero car”. Even so, irregular movements may occur after this check.

Jorge Villa was known in motorsport circles and used to photograph rallies and other events linked to motor sport. He also worked on modeling shoots and recording nightlife in a bar in Gijón.
