According to the Civil Police, the accident happened during a recreational activity carried out at the institution. Employees managed to remove the child and went out in search of help, finding a Military Police team patrolling nearby.
The boy was taken to the Mooca Emergency Care Unit (UPA), but he did not survive, despite attempts to seek medical attention.
The case was registered as culpable homicide, when there is no intention to kill, and will be investigated by the 8th Police District, in Brás.
Forensics were called in to analyze the place where the accident occurred, while the Medical-Legal Institute (IML) will be responsible for the tests that should help clarify the cause of death.
In a statement, the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that five employees of the daycare center are being investigated. Among them are the director, the coordinator, a teacher, a pedagogue and another employee of the institution.
Investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the accident and determine any responsibility of those involved.
