PF investigates embezzlement of R$45 million from Caixa Econômica Federal account holders

According to the investigation, the suspects used lawyers and public servants to obstruct investigations and gain access to confidential data.

The PF stated that the group "promoted electronic subtraction of amounts from Caixa", without detailing how the scheme worked. The report contacted Caixa by email to find out if the institution was aware of the deviations and whether it was investigating the possible participation of employees, but there was still no response.

The PF was contacted with a request for an interview, but did not respond. The agency did not provide the names of the targets and, therefore, the report did not locate the defenses.

The search and seizure warrants were carried out in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, Duque de Caxias (RJ), Nova Iguaçu (RJ), Niterói (RJ) and Cabo Frio (RJ), in addition to Indaiatuba (SP) and Salto (SP). One hundred and twenty agents took to the streets, with support from the Federal Public Ministry.

The suspects had the support of misdemeanors to facilitate contact with public servants who would participate in the diversions, investigators say. The hiring of lawyers, also assisted by criminals, had the "purpose of preventing any investigation into the criminal scheme".
