SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - OpenAI, owner of ChatGPT, launched the Codex Micro shortcut keyboard this week, which marks the company's first foray into the hardware segment.

Aimed at the Codex programming platform, the accessory allows the user to monitor artificial intelligence agents, trigger specific skills, create shortcuts for most used commands and adjust the power of reasoning through an intensity regulator.

This is a timid launch, of limited quantity and without major announcements, which contrasts with OpenAI's greater ambitions for devices equipped with AI. Last year, the company acquired the startup Products, from former Apple designer Jony Ive, for US$6.5 billion (R$33.2 billion).

The product, already sold out, costs US$230 (R$1,176) at OpenAI's official store, called Supply Co. Items such as caps (US$40, R$204) and socks (US$15, R$76) with the brand's logo are also sold there.

The result of a partnership with the manufacturer of mechanical keyboards Work Louder, the also called macropad is sold in clicky and silent versions. It comes with 32 detachable keys with Codex icons and is compatible with Mac and Windows via Bluetooth or USB-C. Configuration is done in the ChatGPT desktop app.

The launch is not related to the devices that OpenAI develops with Jony Ive, formerly responsible for products such as the iPhone and Mac.

According to Bloomberg News, this first product aimed at the general public should be a smart speaker - like Amazon's Echo Dots with Alexa - with which it will be possible to interact with ChatGPT to answer questions, control household appliances and interact with other smart devices. The company works on five different devices, according to the report.

Disputing at the forefront of the AI race with rival Anthropic, from Claude, OpenAI seeks to carry out an IPO (initial public offering of shares) later this year that would value it at US$ 1 trillion (R$ 5.1 trillion).

The launch of the accessory and details about the hardware under development come in the wake of the lawsuit that Apple filed against the startup led by Sam Altman on Friday (10). The iPhone owner claims that the creator of ChatGPT used her former and current employees to steal hardware designs. OpenAI denies the allegations.
