The incident occurred around 8 am, when agents noticed the presence of a person trying to reach the city by paragliding from the Benzú mountains, in the north bay, according to the EFE agency.
The young man intended to land in an area close to the northern border, but he lost control of the wing and ended up falling into the water.
Authorities went to the location believing that the young man was still alive, but found him dead. The body was taken to the Civil Guard Maritime Service facilities.
The Civil Guard confirmed that migrants from sub-Saharan Africa have been trying to enter the city using this method, especially since last year. Several accidents have already been recorded due to lack of knowledge about the equipment, but this is the first death under these circumstances.
Paragliding is an aerial sport considered extreme, in which the pilot flies using a flexible wing, usually starting from a higher location and taking advantage of air currents to glide.
