Father reveals last message he exchanged with ex before children were killed

Sarah Myers, 44, and her mother, Amy Steadman, 64, allegedly committed suicide after killing Harper, Hudson and twins Gavin and Gracelyn, aged 13, 11 and 10 respectively.

On the day of the crime, the man tried to speak to his children via a video call that had been previously arranged with Sarah. However, the woman did not answer the call and ended up sending a message saying that her children were sick and had vomited, and asking if the video call could be postponed until the next day.

“I cannot understand how anyone can claim that this was done to ‘save’ my children from any harm,” the man wrote in a social media post. "The greatest possible harm was done to them. They were terrified, they felt betrayed and they were deprived of their lives by the very people who were supposed to protect them," he added.

Harmon, who lives in Utah, had not seen her children since 2019 and spent years trying to gain custody or visitation rights. When he finally got permission to do so, the children were killed.

According to information released at the time, during a press conference, by the Mechanicville police, one of the children was stabbed, while the other victims appear to have been poisoned.

“Evidence was found inside the apartment that indicates intentional poisoning, including several prescriptions and medications,” authorities reported, adding that other evidence, “including a note,” leads to the conclusion that Amy Steadman was responsible for the tragedy.

Syringes that would have been used to administer medication to the victims were also found inside the house. The bodies would have been found several days after the deaths, considering the state of decomposition in which they were already found.

Everything indicates that the woman was resentful of the fact that the children's father, who had not been with them since 2019, had obtained judicial authorization to keep the children for two months. The father was supposed to pick up the children the following Wednesday.
