"I will take the issue of national defense and rare earths very seriously in the fourth term," said Lula, during the PT National Convention, in São Paulo, which made his candidacy for re-election official.
Lula raised the tone when discussing sovereignty over rare earths. "Neither Chinese nor Americans will touch our rare earths," he declared. The president stated that the country is not inferior to other nations and attributed part of the difficulties to a vision of dependence on elites. "We are not inferior to anyone, we only have a colonized elite," he said.
In a speech, the president also defended greater technological and industrial autonomy in the area of defense and questioned the absence of national production of drones. “Why doesn’t a country the size of Brazil have a drone factory?” he asked.
