A vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, seen from Musandam in Oman. Stringer / Reuters The Iranian government said on Sunday (2) that it is close to concluding an agreement with Oman on a new transit route for commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial point in the war in the Middle East. ? Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp “We are about to reach an agreement on a route acceptable to both parties — neither the northern route nor the southern route —, respecting the sovereign rights of each country and guaranteeing our national interests and our security,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaïl Baghaei in an interview with state television. Baghaei did not give many details about the terms of the agreement with Oman, other than to say that if the treaty is signed, "it will not mean that Hormuz is being closed or reopened."

The Iranian regime's announcement came hours after United States President Donald Trump announced that he had canceled large-scale attacks he would carry out against Iran this weekend after "the terms of the agreement have been defined", in reference to a possible advance in negotiations for a new agreement to end the war in the Middle East — which has already lasted five months. Tehran, however, denied that it had asked Trump to cancel attacks on its territory and stated that the negotiations in which the regime is currently involved are only those with Oman over Hormuz. It was still unclear, until the last update of this report, whether there is any relationship — and what it would be — between the negotiations that Trump claims to be having with Iran and those that the Iranian regime is carrying out with Iran. This report is being updated.
