What is osteosarcoma? According to information from CUF, osteosarcoma is the most common type of primary bone cancer. The malignant tumor develops from osteoblasts, cells responsible for the formation of bone tissue, and tends to appear more frequently in the knee region or upper part of the arm.
The disease mainly affects adolescents, although it can also occur in other age groups.
The institution also explains that there is secondary bone cancer, caused by the spread of tumors originating in other organs. These bone metastases are more frequent than primary tumors and are usually associated with cancers such as prostate, lung and breast cancer.
