When announcing the news, Lauren stated that the family is concentrating all its efforts on helping the young woman during her treatment.
"Today I wanted to share some difficult news… This is my beautiful daughter, Ellie. She is currently battling osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and my family and I are doing everything we can to help with her recovery," he wrote.
In the same message, the actress recalled a quote from Fred Rogers about the importance of valuing those who offer help in difficult times. He then thanked the support received from friends, family and healthcare professionals at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
"It's truly heartwarming to see how people are willing to reach out and help," he said. Lauren also described her daughter as a "deep, sensitive, wise, strong, courageous, intelligent and fun person", in addition to highlighting her beauty "inside and out".
Before closing the publication, the actress said that the family still has a long way to go and asked that followers include Ellie in their prayers. She also invited fans to leave messages of encouragement in the publication or directly on the young woman's profile.
