Four people die from electrocution at Catholic event

In an interview with TV Liberal, the parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro Cathedral, Father Ademir Gramelik, stated that the tragedy shook the entire community and highlighted the victims' commitment to the Church's activities.

"Our hearts are broken by this tragedy that happened to our campers, four brothers on the journey. They were serving God at this moment when we were preparing for the camp and this fatality happened. Feeling of loss, of sadness, of broken heart", declared the priest.

According to information from the Civil Police, the group suffered an electric shock while setting up a tent that ended up touching the power grid. In addition to the four deaths, a fifth person was rescued and remains hospitalized in serious condition. The case remains under investigation.

Among the victims is José Markenedes Costa Oliveira, 39 years old, known as Marquinho Byke. The priest highlighted that he was a businessman and actively participated in the Nossa Senhora de Nazaré Parish.

Teenagers Iotekoytii Sompre and Saimon Gomes Lustosa Lopes, both aged 17, also died. When remembering one of the young people, Father Ademir highlighted the enthusiasm he showed for religious activities.

"A guy who wanted to be on the farm, he said that the farm was his place, he even wanted to live there", he recalled.

The fourth victim was João Vitor Alves da Silva, aged 26. Everyone was part of the Marabá Campers Movement and participated in the organization of the religious retreat.

Even in the face of pain, the priest sought to convey a message of comfort based on the Christian faith.

"Knowing that, serving Jesus as they were, God is already welcoming them to paradise. And that comforts us," he said.

The Itupiranga Police Station opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident. According to the Civil Police of Pará, experts were requested to clarify what happened and verify whether there is possible criminal liability related to the tragedy.

In an official note, the corporation informed that the technical reports will be essential for the continuity of the investigations.

The Diocese of Marabá also released a note of condolence lamenting the death of the four campers and offering solidarity to their families, friends and the entire Catholic community affected by the accident.

In the statement, the religious institution expressed deep regret over the tragedy and stated that it was spiritually close to the bereaved families, the parish community and the camp participants. The Diocese also highlighted that it shares the pain of all those who suffered from the consequences of this episode that tragically interrupted preparations for the religious retreat.
