Flávio Bolsonaro arrives in the United States for a hearing on tariffs
Senator and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), arrived this Sunday in the United States, where he is expected to participate in a public hearing on Brazilian policies and...
The hearing was announced by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). It will take place at the US International Trade Commission in Washington. There will be two sessions, tomorrow, the 6th, and on Tuesday, the 7th. The panel with Flávio is scheduled for the second day, at 10am local time (11am Brasília time).
Last Thursday, the senator sent a statement to the USTR in which he asked for the immediate suspension of the 25% tariff on Brazilian exports. “The proposed tariffs would reward exactly the violators they intend to punish,” the document states.
In the letter, Flávio's team gathered reports to argue that the tariff began to be politically exploited by the government and press outlets aligned with the Palácio do Planalto. According to the senator, the measure was converted into an accusation of treason against the opposition.
The Donald Trump government's proposal to surcharge Brazilian products stems from an investigation conducted based on Section 301, which points out Brazil's alleged unfair and discriminatory practices in areas such as digital commerce, intellectual property and combating illegal deforestation.
