Documentary reveals Preta Gil's desire for her own wake: 'I want something festive, drinks'

Far from a traditional ceremony, she said she wanted a farewell marked by music, meetings and a celebration of life.

In a chat with businessman and friend Marcello Azevedo, Preta explained that she wanted a festive environment, surrounded by the people who were part of her journey. "I want something very chic at the wake. I want something like this: festive, drinks...", stated the artist, making those present laugh.

Afterwards, she detailed how she imagined the ceremony. "Then some people say some things, a lot of music...", he said. At another point, he went further and suggested an unconventional procession. "When the coffin is there, on top of the electric trio", he commented, referring to the vehicle that marked so many moments in his career and in the history of the Gil family.

The singer also said that she would like to be cremated and imagined that the journey between the wake and cremation would be accompanied by a great tribute. "Then the journey from the wake to the cemetery, where I want to be cremated, is in the trio, lots of partying."

The reports gained even more strength because part of the wishes ended up approaching the farewell made after his death. Preta Gil's wake took place at the Municipal Theater in Rio de Janeiro, bringing together family, friends, fans and admirers.

Then, the coffin was taken in a Fire Department truck to the Penitência Cemetery, in Caju, in a procession accompanied by tributes. The ceremony also featured a social space for guests, with drinks and an environment designed to celebrate the artist's trajectory.

In addition to the conversation about farewell, "Preta - Eu Não Ando Só" brings together never-before-seen images from the last years of the singer's life, including moments alongside family and friends during treatment against colorectal cancer, diagnosed in 2023. Preta died on July 20, 2025, at the age of 50.

Last Monday (20), family and friends participated in a mass in memory of one year since the singer's death, held at Paróquia Santa Mônica, in Leblon, south of Rio. Names such as Flora Gil, Carolina Dieckmmann, Murilo Benício, Nanda Costa and Narcisa Tamborindeguy were present, who paid tribute to the artist.
