The German Football Federation (DFB) has reached an agreement in principle with Jürgen Klopp, chosen to replace Julian Nagelsmann in charge of Germany's senior team. The information was released this Sunday by German journalist Florian Plettenberg, a specialist in the transfer market.

According to the publication, the 59-year-old coach is expected to sign a contract next Friday, in Frankfurt. The agreement will be valid until the end of the 2030 World Cup. The agreement is expected to be made official on the same day, followed by a press conference in which Klopp will answer the first questions from the press.

The same source states that the DFB is also finalizing the final details with Red Bull, the energy drink company that appointed Klopp, in October 2024, as global football director. In this role, he started to coordinate the sports policy of the clubs linked to the group, including RB Leipzig, Red Bull Bragantino and New York Red Bulls.

Also according to the report, Klopp met last Saturday, in a confidential location, in New York — where he had been working as a sports commentator for Magenta TV — with the executive director of Red Bull, Oliver Mintzlaff. At the meeting, the two agreed on the final details for ending the relationship between the coach and the company.

'Goodbye', Julian Nagelsmann. 'Hello', Jurgen Klopp

With this, Germany would have already defined the successor to Julian Nagelsmann, who had led the team since 2023 and ended up leaving the position after a campaign below expectations in the World Cup. The elimination happened surprisingly against Paraguay, on penalties, still in the round of 32 stage.

Despite having a squad full of talented players, the 38-year-old coach ended his time without winning titles. In addition to the disappointing campaign at the World Cup, he was also eliminated by Spain in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Euro Cup and finished the Nations League in fourth place.

Jürgen Klopp returns to work after ending, in 2024, a winning cycle of nine seasons at Liverpool. During this period, he won a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, a Club World Cup, a Premier League, an FA Cup, two English League Cups and an English Super Cup.

Recently, Klopp was named as one of Florentino Pérez's main desires to take charge of Real Madrid. However, the coach always rejected this possibility, paving the way for the return of Portuguese José Mourinho to the Santiago Bernabéu, in a negotiation that would have yielded around 15 million euros to Benfica.
