SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - On Thursday night (6), the last two classified in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil were defined.

Internacional, who had won the first match against Corinthians – the current champion – 2-0, in Porto Alegre, confirmed their place in the next phase after losing the return game 2-1, in São Paulo.

Without being able to count on strikers Yuri Alberto, who was injured, and Memphis Depay, who is still in negotiations to renew his contract, Corinthians put pressure on the Colorado team from the start, but had serious difficulties converting the pressure into dangerous chances.

The black and white team's first goal only came at the end of the first half, from the feet of defender Gustavo Henrique, after a rebound from the goalkeeper inside the area. At 13 minutes into the second half, however, Inter reached the equalizer, with a placed shot from Bernabei.

About ten minutes later, at 24, striker Pedro Raul, who won his place in the starting lineup instead of Gui Negão, scored Corinthians' second, heading home a cross from Matheus Bidu. It was the center forward's first goal in 26 matches for the team this season.

At 40, Matheuzinho even hit a ball against the post, with a shot from the edge of the penalty area, in the last dangerous move.

In the other round of 16 game of the Copa do Brasil this Thursday, Athletico-PR, which had also scored 2-0 against Vitória in the first leg, in Curitiba, lost 4-0 in the return game, in Salvador, thanks to goals from strikers Renê (twice), Erick and Marinho.

On Tuesday (4), Santos and Atlético-MG had already secured their places in the quarterfinals, eliminating Remo and Juventude, respectively.

On Wednesday (5), it was the turn of Palmeiras, Vasco, Cruzeiro and Grêmio, leaving Fortaleza, Fluminense, Chapecoense and Mirassol along the way, in order.

The draw to define the quarter-final clashes will take place next Tuesday (11), starting at 11 am (Brasília time), at the headquarters of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), in Rio de Janeiro.

The matches are scheduled to take place between August 26th and September 3rd. The CBF also announced this Thursday that the quarter-final matches will feature semi-automatic offside technology, a system that has also been adopted in Brazilian Championship games.
