Not all drinks considered healthy are, in fact, good for the body. Some options seen as beneficial can bring unwanted effects, according to cardiologist Francesco Lo Monaco.

In an interview with The Mirror, the expert revealed which drinks he avoids consuming, despite their reputation as “healthy”. According to him, some products sold as health benefits may contain harmful substances.

“Some of the most harmful substances people consume come in bottles marketed as healthy,” he said. “There are specific drinks that I would certainly try to avoid, despite their supposed health benefits.”

See the drinks that the cardiologist avoids:

Diet soft drinks

Although they may seem like a healthier choice, high consumption of diet sodas has been linked to an increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, these drinks keep the palate accustomed to very sweet flavors, which can make more balanced choices difficult.

Sports drinks

For common workouts, water is usually sufficient. In cases of intense, sweaty or long-lasting exercise, a sugar-free electrolyte drink, consumed in moderation, may be a more suitable alternative.

Detox teas

Strong caffeine mixes, laxatives, and herbs can cause side effects and are not a shortcut to lasting heart health. Furthermore, they can delay seeking medical advice when there is a real problem.

Kombucha

Some industrialized kombuchas have significant amounts of added sugar. Therefore, it is worth checking the nutritional label and opting for low-sugar versions. Even so, the drink should be consumed occasionally, not every day.

Ready-made coffee drinks

The coffee itself is not the problem. The issue lies in some ready-made versions, which mix syrups, cream and sugar in amounts similar to soft drinks, in addition to adding extra calories to the routine.

Simple habits that a cardiologist maintains in the morning

Leaving home without breakfast can be a mistake. Another simple habit adopted by cardiologists is to drink a glass of water right after a meal.

Speaking to Parade magazine, cardiologist Daniel Hermann highlighted the importance of hydration for heart health. According to him, staying hydrated can help reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Walking can also bring benefits. According to Hermann, a heart-healthy habit after breakfast is to exercise daily, even if it's just a brisk 20-minute walk.

In addition to contributing to cardiovascular health and weight control, the habit can help regulate blood sugar, relieve stress, improve digestion and reduce anxiety and the risk of depression.

Five foods that should not be eaten raw

Cake batter, unpasteurized milk, ground meat, dried beans and some mushrooms may contain bacteria, toxins or compounds that are harmful to your health. Experts recommend proper cooking or pasteurization before consumption
