Boy attacked by crocodile has already undergone 5 surgeries and needs more

According to Sky News, the parents reported this Saturday that doctors believe the recovery will be long. The family has practically been living in the hospital since the child was attacked by the reptile on June 18th.

To help cover expenses, family members created a fundraising campaign, which has already received more than 25 thousand pounds (around R$185 thousand, at current prices).

"We are extremely grateful for everyone's generosity. We can never thank you enough for all the support you have given our family at this very difficult time," said the parents, according to the British publication.

They also said that they have been living in the hospital for two weeks and that their son has already undergone five surgeries. In addition, the child must undergo at least two more procedures in the coming days.

"The last two weeks have been a period of great uncertainty and suffering," they said in an update on the boy's health.

"The rehabilitation process is still uncertain, but we know it will not be short. The money raised so far has been used to cover our expenses. Currently, we are both away from work and we still don't know how long we will need to stay like this", they added.

In the same statement, parents said the donations helped alleviate financial pressure. According to them, the funds raised in the future will also be used for their son's rehabilitation and as a way of giving back to the hospital that supported the family during this difficult period.

“Thank you very much,” they concluded.

It is worth remembering that the police arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder against the child. He was later released on bail.

According to authorities, the suspect, from Norfolk County, has an intellectual disability and was participating in a trip to the zoo accompanied by caregivers.

It is not yet known how or why, but the main line of investigation indicates that he was responsible for making the boy fall into the crocodile enclosure.

The child was rescued by Tracey Johnson, wife of the zoo owner, who did not hesitate to enter the enclosure where the reptiles were to save the boy.

According to information published on the official website, Johnsons of Old Hurst is an agricultural company that currently also runs a butcher's shop, a rural products store, a tea house, a steakhouse and a zoo. The space is home to more than 100 animals, including crocodiles, African lions and a Bengal tiger.
