Flávio stated that the moment "is difficult for everyone", preached unity on the right and said that it was never his intention to disrespect anyone, especially the wife of his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) – who is under house arrest under Michelle's care and prevented from receiving visits from his son.
"No one is perfect, I am not perfect and, once again, I apologize for some moments that caused discomfort. As we are public people, this ends up being exploited by our opponents", declared the PL pre-candidate in the recording released on social media.
When addressing Michelle directly, Flávio said he recognized her work leading PL Mulher and renewed the invitation for them to walk together. He also made an appeal to prevent the public fight from being transformed "into more reasons for attacks that can and will be exploited" against them.
"We are going to avoid any division. What unites us is much greater than any difference [...] I also ask our activists here to look forward at this moment. Let's focus on the main objective which is to rescue our Brazil, as Jair Bolsonaro has said on other occasions", he stated.
"I am convinced that we share the same objective, working for a safer, more prosperous and hopeful Brazil. The doors are open", added the senator.
The video was recorded by Flávio two days before the PL convention that will make his name official in the presidential race. According to the Panel, Michelle should not go to the event, which will be in São Paulo. She says that she would have to leave Brasília and that, in that case, she would need someone to take care of the former president.
