For the director, the multi-time champion with Palmeiras owes much of what he achieved to his time at the Alviverde club, unlike the other two coaches, who already had accumulated national titles and experience with great players. Boto, however, stressed that this does not mean that Abel's previous work was bad.
“I think Abel owes his entire career to Brazil, in other words, he is one of those people that Brazil made a coach,” said Boto, before comparing the Palmeiras native’s trajectory to that of other Portuguese players. “Jorge Jesus and Leonardo built their careers before arriving in Brazil.”
"Abel coached Braga, and I'm not saying whether it was bad or good. Then, he coached PAOK and left there for Palmeiras. His entire successful career was built here", he added.
Boto also praised the Portuguese coaching school.
“The fact that we occupy the place we occupy in world football says a lot about the quality of Portuguese football”, he declared.
The director was also asked about Neymar's possible move to Flamengo, a subject that frequently resurfaces in the press and on social media. Boto ruled out any negotiations between the club and the striker, but said he considered the player “unjust”.
"I think he was one of the most unfair players in his career. In terms of physical and technical qualities, he is at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi", he analyzed.
In the manager's opinion, the referees' permissiveness in the face of fouls suffered by Neymar may have contributed to the Brazilian's injury history.
"One thing I've always said: among the three great players, he was the least protected by the referees. They let him hit him a lot, and that helped cause a lot of injuries", he concluded.
