On social media, Ary Fontoura thanked the artist. "Thank you very much for everything, Rui." Marcelo Serrado highlighted the actor's competence. Actresses Inez Viana and Beth Goulart mourned the loss.
Then, José de Abreu commented: "How sad. A great human figure. Go in peace!"
One of his best-known characters is Professor Astromar Junqueira in the soap opera "Roque Santeiro" (1985), who transformed into a werewolf.
On the web, fans showed their affection and admiration for the artist. "Unforgettable! My condolences to all the family," wrote one internet user. "Big loss Professor Astromar/Lobisomem: an icon of Brazilian culture", said another.
The Artists' Retreat, where he had lived since 2019, confirmed the information of his death. "It is with deep regret that we say goodbye to Rui Rezende, one of the great names in Brazilian dramaturgy."
