The escalation of tension between Iran and the United States gained a new chapter this Monday (13), after the Iranian government launched an offensive against American military installations in the Middle East. One of the details that caught the most attention was the release of a video by the Fars news agency, linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard, showing a Qadr ballistic missile moments before launch. The phrase "Game Over, USA" was painted on the structure of the weapon, in English, in a clear message to the North American government.

The Iranian offensive occurred in response to a new bombing carried out by the United States against Iranian territory on Sunday night. According to Tehran, the attacks targeted American military installations located in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. The US military command claims that its operations seek to reduce Iran's ability to interfere with navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic maritime routes on the planet.

While military tension increases, diplomatic negotiations between the two countries continue to be surrounded by disagreements. On Sunday (12), President Donald Trump stated, in an interview with American broadcaster NBC, that Iran would have accepted an agreement he considered "perfect", completely giving up any activity related to nuclear energy.

The statement, however, was rejected by the Iranian government. This Monday, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, classified the American president's statements as "absolutely false". According to him, during the meeting held last Saturday in Oman, the only topic discussed among the delegations was the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, without any negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.

Baghaei also stated that Iran continues to participate in negotiations in good faith and fulfill the commitments set out in the memorandum of understanding signed between the parties. However, he stressed that the country will fail to fulfill its obligations if the United States does the same.

"Every time the other party has failed to fulfill its obligations, we have also failed to fulfill ours... and we will continue to do so," the spokesperson said.

Instability in the Middle East also had immediate repercussions on the international financial market. The price of a barrel of Brent oil, a global reference, soared and began to be traded close to 80 dollars, accumulating an increase of 4% on the day and around 10% compared to Monday of the previous week.

Asian stock markets ended the session lower as investor concerns increased. The main focus of attention continues to be the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage through which approximately a fifth of all the oil consumed in the world flows.

While Donald Trump claims that the sea route remains open, the Iranian government maintains that no vessels will be able to cross the region until stability and calm are reestablished, further increasing uncertainty about the next developments in the crisis.
