In an interview with journalists this Thursday (16), Alckmin repeated arguments already used by the Brazilian government in the tariff discussion, remembering that the USA has a trade surplus with Brazil, and that Pix, one of the targets of the Donald Trump administration, did not harm credit card companies.
The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, stated that the act "is about undue external interference". The head of the economic team also addressed the issue from a political point of view, referring to the new tariffs as an "electoral crutch".
Alongside Alckmin and Durigan were ministers Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs), Márcio Elias Rosa (Industry, Commerce and Services) and João Paulo Capobianco (Environment).
Durigan said that the government will reinforce Brazil Soberano, a line of credit for exporters affected by tariffs and the war in Iran, and said that ministers will take the option for the Reciprocity Law to President Lula, who will make the final decision.
