The bus left the city of Brejo Santo (CE) and was heading to a pilgrim shelter in the city of Canindé when the accident happened. The vehicle left the road and overturned in an open area. Authorities have not yet released the cause of the accident.
The accident happened around 6am. The vehicle was less than 40 kilometers from its final destination, in the district of Targinos, according to the Sanctuary of Canindé.
Of the 32 people who were on the bus, two died at the scene, according to the Canindé Municipal Guard. To UOL, the agency reported that the injured were taken to a UPA (Emergency Care Unit) in the region and to Santa Casa de Canindé.
At least 21 people were injured, including children. Two of them, in a more serious condition, were taken to specialized hospitals and four others underwent surgery at Santa Casa de Canindé.
The investigation at the scene was still underway late this morning. UOL contacted the Ceará Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat to find out if the victims had already been identified. The agency reported that the incident was the responsibility of the Ceará Fire Department, which was also contacted. The space will be updated when there is placement.
