According to the police, Liliane was killed with a shot to the head, fired from a 9 mm caliber gun. The main line of investigation indicates that she was sleeping at the time of the crime. The main suspect is the victim's companion, Bonifácio Nogueira Gomes. According to the Civil Police, the relationship was marked by disagreements and the man was jealous. Family members reported to the Military Police that the couple had lived together for about a month. :

Afterwards, the couple went to the bedroom. On Friday morning, Liliane's mother found her daughter with no signs of life and called the Military Police. Family members also gave the police a bag that belonged to Bonifácio. Inside, two 9mm pistol magazines were found with 19 rounds of ammunition intact. The material was seized and sent for forensic examination. During work at the scene, investigators found a used ammunition capsule next to the bed where the victim was lying. Teams from the Civil Police and Technical-Scientific Expertise were at the residence to carry out the first surveys and determine the motivation for the crime. According to the Military Police, the suspect left the scene in a pickup truck and has not yet been located. The Civil Police are continuing their investigations to find him.
