Woman arrested for stabbing her companion to death in Atibaia is released after custody hearing

The decision was taken by the Regional Court of Guarantees of the 4th Judicial Administrative Region (RAJ), in Campinas. The judge approved the arrest in the act, but denied the request for conversion into preventive detention. According to the decision, exams and reports showed that the woman had recent injuries to her face and eyes. The woman claims that she acted after being attacked by her partner during an argument on the night of the crime. Despite the release, the Court highlighted that the analysis of possible self-defense or excessive reaction will be carried out throughout the investigation and process. To be free, she must appear in court every month to report her activities and cannot leave the city for more than eight days without judicial authorization. Remember the case According to the police report, the crime took place around 11:30 pm on Saturday (25), in a house in the Jardim Maracanã neighborhood, in Atibaia. The Military Police were called on Sunday morning (26). At the property, police officers found the victim lying on the floor with a stab wound to the chest. Samu teams confirmed the death at the scene. In testimony, she said that she was attacked with punches and kicks by her partner during an argument. According to the report, she took a knife and hit the man in the chest. The woman stated that she went to sleep afterwards and only realized that he was dead the next morning. The daughter of the investigated woman reported to the police that the couple's relationship was marked by frequent episodes of domestic violence. According to her, her mother tried to call her several times on the night of the crime to ask for help, but the calls were not answered. Initially, the woman was arrested for simple homicide.
