Electric and hybrid cars can be called electrified vehicles Cedida/BYD Electric vehicles seemed to belong to a distant future of the Amazonian reality until a few years ago. Today, however, they are already frequently circulating on the streets of Manaus, appearing in business fleets and in the routine of app drivers who have found electrification to be an alternative to reducing fuel costs. The numbers show that this transformation is already occurring. According to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE), 459 electrified light vehicles were sold in Amazonas in 2022. In 2025, this volume reached 2,863 units, an accumulated growth of approximately 524% in just three years. In Brazil, in the first half of 2026 alone, 215,023 electrified light vehicles were registered, an increase of 125% compared to the same period of the previous year. In June, they already represented 18.3% of all light vehicles sold in the country. The increase in sales is driven by factors such as the expansion of the model range, the entry of new brands, the expansion of charging infrastructure and consumers' search for lower usage costs. But, beyond the market, electromobility raises a question that is of direct interest to the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM): will Amazonas be just a consumer market or will it be able to participate in the production chain of this transformation? A chain that goes far beyond car assembly When we talk about the automotive industry, it is common to imagine only the assembly of vehicles. In the case of trams, however, the chain is much broader. It involves batteries, chargers, onboard electronics, inverters, power modules, sensors, wiring harnesses, connectors, software, monitoring systems, charging infrastructure and energy storage solutions. It is precisely at this point that Manaus has a competitive advantage. Over the decades, PIM has consolidated industrial competencies in electronics, IT goods, electronic components, cables, connectors, thermoplastics, batteries, motorcycles and technology equipment. Although it does not have a traditional automobile industry, much of this knowledge can interact with the demands of electromobility. Instead of competing for space as a complete vehicle manufacturer, a more feasible path for Manaus may be in the production of components and systems destined for the national and international electric mobility chains. The first signs Some companies are already demonstrating that this movement is beginning to take shape. NeoPower has been expanding the charging infrastructure in the capital of Amazonas, with the implementation of fast charging stations for consumers, companies and fleets. The expansion of this network creates demand for specialized electrical installation, maintenance, engineering and technological services. At PIM itself, Livoltek opened a factory with an announced investment of R$70 million. The unit has started production of inverters for photovoltaic systems and is planned to incorporate chargers for electric vehicles, lithium batteries and is developing electric motors for vessels. This is a strategy that brings together solar energy, storage and electric mobility, technologies that tend to evolve in an integrated manner. Another example comes from BYD Battery Industry. The unit installed in Manaus produces accumulator modules used in the company's electric buses. Although it does not manufacture batteries for the brand's passenger cars, the operation demonstrates that the Industrial Pole already participates in the electromobility chain through the production of technological components for electrified vehicles. A potential that can still grow The potential of PIM is not restricted to companies that already operate directly in this market. Manufacturers of electronic boards, cables, connectors, plastic components, power supplies, communication systems, electrical harnesses and automation solutions installed in Manaus have industrial skills compatible with different stages of the electric vehicle chain. Added to this is the presence of research and development institutes capable of working in embedded software, artificial intelligence, telecommunications and power electronics, such as the Institute for Technological Development (INDT). This structure allows us to envision opportunities to expand PIM's participation in higher value-added segments of electromobility, such as power electronics, intelligent systems, energy storage, connectivity and solutions for charging infrastructure. Naturally, this insertion depends on certifications, industrial scale, competitiveness, nationalization of components and strategic decisions by manufacturers. Even so, the existing production and technological base places Manaus in a unique position to compete for this space. An opportunity that goes beyond automobiles Electromobility also creates opportunities in segments that speak directly to the Amazon reality. In addition to the strong motorcycle industry installed in PIM, the participation of electric bicycles is growing, while electric motors, batteries and hybrid systems are emerging as alternatives for vessels used in passenger transport, tourism and various economic activities carried out on the region's rivers. At the same time, the expansion of the electrified fleet should boost new services linked to the installation of chargers, maintenance of high voltage systems, energy management and battery recycling, requiring increasingly specialized professionals. More than selling cars Electric vehicles represent an important change in Brazilian consumer behavior.
