Cenipa releases final report on the Voepass plane crash Gabriella Ramos/g1 The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) gathered the press this Thursday (23) to present the result of the final report on the Voepass plane crash in Vinhedo (SP), an accident that killed 62 people in August 2024. The final report brings together the conclusions of the technical investigation conducted by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to identify the factors that contributed to the accident. The investigators analyzed, among other things, the contents of the two black boxes (cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder) and the meteorological conditions recorded on the day of the accident. They also carried out tests on the engines, deicing and stall protection systems, in addition to carrying out an experimental flight with another ATR 72-500 - see what was done below. Remember here. What was analyzed by Cenipa? Voepass tragedy: video shows how the plane crashed in Vinhedo Among the main works carried out are: analysis of the two black boxes (cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder); complete reconstruction of the flight, including commands made by the pilots and alerts issued by the aircraft; examinations of engines and deicing and stall protection systems; analysis of meteorological conditions recorded on the day of the accident; interviews with pilots, mechanics, dispatchers and crew members’ families; study of more than 15 thousand flights carried out by aircraft from the same company fleet; tests in simulators and an experimental flight with another ATR 72-500; analysis of maintenance records, pilots' medical certificates and other technical documents; analysis of equipment responsible for controlling different aircraft systems; analysis of the plane's dashboard lamps to check which ones were lit at the time of the crash. Disclosure/FAB Before being released, the report went through the steps set out in the international protocol for investigations of aeronautical accidents. The document was analyzed: by the Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses pour la Sécurité de l'Aviation Civile (BEA), from France, the country responsible for the design and manufacture of the ATR 72-500; and by the Transportation Safety Board (TSB), of Canada, responsible for designing the aircraft's engines. Criminal investigation is also in the final stretch Family members of the victims of flight 2283 and lawyers in a meeting at the Federal Police Station, in Campinas (SP) Personal file In parallel with Cenipa's work, the Federal Police are conducting an investigation to determine whether there were crimes and those responsible for the tragedy. The PF expects to finish it in August. At the end of June, family representatives had access for the first time to the transcript of conversations recorded in the aircraft cabin. The document is part of the report produced by the National Institute of Criminalistics (INC), which is the basis for the PF investigation. The conversations were expected because they could help clarify the final moments of the flight, including whether the pilots commented on or activated the deicing system — one of the hypotheses investigated since the accident. According to lawyers representing the family members, the expectation is that the Federal Police will conclude the investigation soon and forward the case to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF). The report may support possible indictments. What Voepass says In a statement, Voepass stated that the crash of flight 2283 was "the most difficult episode" in the company's history and said it continued to provide psychological support to the families of the victims. The company declared that it collaborated with the investigations from the beginning, reaffirmed that its fleet "has always been airworthy and capable of carrying out flights", in accordance with international standards, and maintained that only Cenipa's final report will be able to conclusively point out the causes of the accident. Remember the accident Protest by family members of the victims of the plane crash in Vinhedo Gabriella Ramos/g1 Voepass flight 2283 crashed on the afternoon of August 9, 2024 in a condominium in Vinhedo, during the route between Cascavel (PR) and Guarulhos (SP). The 62 people on board - 58 passengers and four crew - died. It was the most serious air accident in Brazil since the TAM flight disaster in 2007. Shortly after the tragedy, two investigations were opened. The Aviation Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) began to investigate the factors that contributed to the crash and indicate measures to avoid further accidents. The Federal Police have now started an investigation to determine whether there was a crime and produce their own report on the case, as Cenipa's report cannot be used to hold criminal liability. A month later, Cenipa released the preliminary investigation report. The document confirmed that the aircraft faced severe icing conditions and recorded that the crew reported a possible failure of the anti-icing system during the flight. It also showed that the system was activated and turned off several times throughout the trip, but without concluding whether this occurred due to the pilots' actions or for another reason. The report, however, did not indicate the cause of the accident. While investigations were progressing, the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) suspended operations
