Students from Maranhão win prizes in world robotics competition in Canada Disclosure/ IEMA The delegation from the State Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Maranhão (IEMA) won seven prizes in the 31st edition of the FIRA RoboWorld Cup & Summit 2026. The international robotics competition was held between the 17th and 21st of July, in Markham, Canada, and brought together teams from different countries. ? The institute's Robotics coordinator was also awarded for his work preparing and guiding the students. IEMA teams participated in the Autonomous Cars U19 categories, focused on autonomous cars, and Mission Impossible U19, called Mission Impossible. The students won first, second and third places in the tests. See the awards won by IEMA In the Autonomous Cars U19 category, the institute's teams came first in the Challenger and Best Racer categories. The students also won second and third place in the Super Team category. In the Mission Impossible U19 category, IEMA came in first and third place. Robotics Coordinator is also awarded IEMA's Robotics coordinator, Fábio Aurélio, received the award for Best Technician and Advisor, called Coach Challenger. The award recognized the work carried out in preparing students for the competition. "Receiving this award is a great honor, but it represents the work of the entire team. It is the recognition of a collective effort, built alongside our students and with the support of the Government of Maranhão, which believes in education, science and innovation as tools for transformation", highlighted the professor. The general director of IEMA, Mirla Oliveira, stated that the result represents international recognition of the scientific and technological training work developed by the institute. "It is a source of great pride to see our students and teachers taking the name of Maranhão to the podium of one of the biggest robotics competitions in the world. This result demonstrates the strength of public and technological education developed by IEMA and reaffirms that, with investment and opportunities, our young people can compete and win at an international level", he stated. Student Ana Raquel, member of the Maranhão delegation, also celebrated the team's result. "It is a great joy to participate in a competition of this level and return home with yet another award for IEMA. Representing Maranhão in Canada and showing the potential of our education fills us with pride. This achievement belongs to our entire team", he said. History of achievements According to IEMA, the results achieved at the FIRA RoboWorld Cup & Summit 2026 are added to other awards obtained by the institute in national and international robotics competitions. The institution states that it develops projects in the areas of education, science and technology to expand the opportunities offered to students from Maranhão and encourage participation in scientific competitions.
