Autism Awareness Ribbon Shutterstock The City of Santos passed a law that obliges venues for sports and events with a capacity for more than 5,000 people to reserve spaces for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The rule was published this Friday (17), comes into force in January 2027 and provides for a fine for anyone who fails to comply with the measure. The rule applies to stadiums, arenas, sports centers and gymnasiums and courts. The spaces must have a planned sensory integration room, with adequate visibility and containment of external sound. Among the objectives is the promotion of inclusion and increasing accessibility at events. Another foreseen point is that the entry and exit times of this public will be of free initiative, “taking into account the unpredictability inherent to autistic behavior”. The law also determines specific training for support and security professionals. Neurologists update guidelines for diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder In football games, the organization of the sale and delivery of these tickets will be the responsibility of the home club; in other events, from the responsible producer. Withdrawal will depend on a medical report and must occur within defined deadlines. The law determines that tickets for this audience must be offered at least 72 hours in advance, and collected up to 24 hours before the event. Proposed by councilor Sérgio Santana (PL), the law will be regulated until January 2027. In case of non-compliance, the rule provides for a warning on the first fine and a fine of R$ 1,000 in the case of a repeat offense, doubled for new fines and corrected annually by the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA).
