According to him, the formation of an egg within another happens when there is a change in the movement of the egg during the formation process in the hen's body. At this stage, however, the structure is still soft. "What happens is an anomaly that causes the egg to suffer from movement, and then it ends up returning to the duct. It can find another, larger egg and be engulfed by this egg, also in formation. After a while, the shell is formed, the movement normalizes and this egg is expelled through the cloaca", he explained. According to João Damasceno, the case is considered unusual. "This formation of an egg within an egg is not so normal in nature. But it has a reason," he said. According to the ornithologist, different factors can favor this type of occurrence. "It's a phenomenon that can happen due to factors ranging from excess protein in the diet to very poor nutrition, or even stress on the part of the animal, which ends up causing an egg within an egg," he said. The expert added that the phenomenon is not common, but can occur when the bird presents changes in the functioning of the reproductive system associated with food or stress.
