Project brings free cinema and audiovisual workshops to communities in the interior of AM

Afterwards, the caravan heads to Nova Olinda do Norte. The activities are scheduled for the 17th and 18th of July, with workshops at 9am, at the Community Center, and film screenings at 6pm, at Praça Valdeque Martins. According to the project's creator, Ernan Passos, the proposal is to expand access to culture in municipalities that face difficulties in receiving initiatives of this type. "The Madeira River has always been a path through which people, goods and stories circulate. We want it to also be a path for the circulation of culture and audiovisuals. More than showing films, we want to encourage communities to record their own stories and strengthen their identity through cinema", he states. The project will also feature accessibility features, such as descriptive subtitles and translation into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). The team is made up of Ernan Passos, in general coordination; Daniel Ramos, in financial and production coordination; Victor Cabral, responsible for workshops and accessibility; and Neide Barbosa, in logistics and community mobilization. For Ernan, the expectation is that the initiative will encourage residents to produce content about their own communities. "We want to leave a seed. When a person learns that they can produce a video with their own cell phone and tell the story of their community, they start to see audiovisual as a tool for memory, education and social transformation", he explains. The project is financed with resources from the Aldir Blanc National Policy for Promoting Culture (PNAB). Founded in 2023, Coletivo Vozes da Periferia is a cultural organization in the East Zone of Manaus recognized as a Culture Point by the Ministry of Culture. The entity develops actions in the areas of culture, education, sport, social justice and climate justice.
