Arthur Lira had his candidacy for the Senate for Alagoas confirmed this Saturday (2) by the União Progressista Federation, formed by PP and União Brasil. The decision was taken during a convention held this Sunday (2), in Maceió. Arthur Lira, 57 years old, is a federal deputy for the PP of Alagoas and is in his fourth consecutive term. In this year's elections, on October 4th, Brazilians will vote for: president; governor; Senate (two seats per state); federal deputy; state deputy; Arthur Lira's trajectory Arthur Lira, 57 years old, was born in Maceió and is a federal deputy for the PP of Alagoas. Son of former senator Benedito de Lira, he graduated in Law from the Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal), is a businessman and farmer. He entered politics in 1992, when he was elected councilor for Maceió. He then served three terms as state deputy and, in 2010, was elected federal deputy for the first time. In the Chamber, he became one of the main leaders of the Centrão. He was leader of the PP, chaired the Constitution and Justice Commission and commanded the Chamber of Deputies between 2021 and 2025. He is currently in his fourth federal term. Lira was investigated in Operation Taturana, which investigated deviations in the Legislative Assembly of Alagoas. Convictions for misconduct were annulled by the Superior Court of Justice due to procedural failures, without a definitive analysis of the accusations. He also responded to complaints related to Operation Lava Jato, but the accusations were rejected by the Federal Supreme Court due to lack of evidence or just cause. In another case, for domestic violence against an ex-partner, he was acquitted by the STF in 2015 due to insufficient evidence.
