Municipal Shelter of Petrolina Reproduction/ TV Grande Rio With the drop in temperatures in Petrolina, the Department of Social Assistance and Combating Hunger reinforced the services of the Municipal Shelter. Admission to the shelter is via referral from the POP Center or the Specialized Social Approach Service. These bodies are responsible for the initial assessment and guidance of users. The reception is temporary. The stay may last just one night or extend for a period of three to six months, depending on the evaluation of the technical team. The shelter structure has five bedrooms, one exclusively for women, as well as six bathrooms, laundry, vegetable garden, computer room, kitchen and dining room. Five meals a day are served on site. The arrival and departure times for those welcomed are defined by the technical team, which assesses the routine and needs of each person. At the shelter, users also receive support for issuing documents and inclusion in the Single Registry. There are also referrals for care in the public health network and in Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS). The Municipal Shelter opened in 2022.
