Court of Paraíba orders betting company to suspend betting platforms in the national territory Joédson Alves/Agência Brasil Judge João Lucas Souto Gil Messias, from the Children and Youth Court of Campina Grande, ordered the betting company PixBet to suspend all online betting platforms in the national territory, on an injunction basis, as he considers that the current mechanisms do not prevent access by minors. g1 had access to this Tuesday’s decision (14). ? The suspension is valid for the entire national territory and also for platforms that are owned by Pixbet, such as Flabet and Bet da Sorte Among the measures imposed by the Court for the regularization and resumption of platforms are: facial recognition with proof of life for each access and each financial transaction; biometric cross-verification with official databases; automatic blocking of registrations made using minors’ CPF. g1 contacted PixBet, which did not respond until the last update of this report.

In addition to the insufficiency of age verification mechanisms, the judge based the decision on the understanding that the platforms use elements with a strong appeal to children and young people, such as visual resources, online casino games, including the so-called "Jogo do Tigrinho", and advertising associated with the sports universe. In the decision, the judge states that these elements contradict the principle of full protection of children and adolescents, provided for in the Federal Constitution, the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), Law No. 14,811/2024, known as "ECA Digital", and the Bets Law. When justifying the national scope of the decision, the judge highlighted that the platforms operate over the internet, which, according to him, makes it impossible to restrict the effects of the measure to Paraíba only. The judge also cited the understanding of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that allows public civil actions of this nature to be effective throughout the national territory.
