The delivery of the space to the population is marked by the Ruins Festival, which is already underway. The restoration project lasted more than a year and received an investment of R$18 million. Listed by the State Institute of Cultural Heritage (Inepac), the church was built in 1734 and is considered one of the main historical heritage sites in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the restoration of the structure, the site now houses a Reference Center focused on heritage education, research and preservation of the region's memory. The initiative was developed by Elysium Sociedade Cultural, in partnership with the City of Cachoeiras de Macacu and Nova Transportadora do Sudeste (NTS), through the Federal Culture Incentive Law. ? Festival brings together exhibitions, workshops and seminar The Festival das Ruínas program began with a masterclass for children and young people in Rio de Janeiro. A model and woodcut workshop was also held in the district of Subaio, in Cachoeiras de Macacu, with the participation of 20 residents. The activity sought to stimulate artistic training and the appreciation of the city's historical and cultural heritage. On Friday (17), the public will be able to visit the ruins and check out the permanent exhibition with objects remaining from the old church, as well as a photographic exhibition made up of images selected in a process conducted by Elysium, curated by experts in the areas of heritage, journalism and history. Also on Friday, the space will host the academic seminar "São José da Boa Morte and the Safeguard of Heritage", promoted by Elysium in partnership with the Postgraduate Program in Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Proarq/FAU-UFRJ). The meeting is open to the public and will bring together researchers, architects and managers to discuss the challenges of preserving historical ruins, managing cultural heritage and strategies for valuing memory in interior cities. Registration must be made using the form. The restored space now has a Reference Center focused on preserving memory. Igor Holderbaum Experts highlight research and preservation Architect and professor at FAU-UFRJ/Proarq, Niuxa Drago states that preserving heritage requires dialogue between universities, institutions and communities. "Updating a heritage object is always a dialogue between institutions and communities, theory and practice", he states. Historian at Elysium and doctoral student at Proarq/UFRJ, Rachel Wider highlights that the seminar seeks to bring academic production closer to interventions carried out in historical heritage. "It's an honor to be able to coordinate this action, presenting to people a project that was carried out with such excellence by Elysium", he says. Among the participants are Elysium's technical director, Wolney Unes; museologist Célia Corsino; the municipal secretary of Culture of Nova Iguaçu, Marcus Monteiro; the head of the Technical Office at Iphan Médio Vale do Paraíba, Ivan Mascarenhas; in addition to researchers Niuxa Drago, Daniella Martins Costa and Thiago Fonseca. Book will be launched during the event During the seminar, the book "Ruínas de São José da Boa Morte" will be launched, which brings together research developed throughout the consolidation process of the old church, in addition to presenting technical aspects of the work, the interventions carried out and the social actions promoted during the project. For Wolney Unes, the festival represents a milestone for the preservation of Rio de Janeiro's historical heritage. "The ruins of São José da Boa Morte represent not only the history of Cachoeiras de Macacu, but also the importance of preserving cultural references that help to understand the formation of the Rio de Janeiro territory.
