The victim, aged 43, was killed by three teenagers, aged 13, 14 and 16, in a robbery during a race in Ribeirão Preto (SP) last week. In a statement to the police, the three claimed that José Edson was suffocated with a rear-naked choke and thrown into the Rio Pardo. The murder happened so they could have the victim's car. The document with the cause of death only increases the family's suffering, according to José Edson's widow. "They told the police officer that it was choking, suffocation. That [head trauma], for me, was a surprise. In my mind, my husband suffered. In addition to suffocating, they also beat him (...) How evil, what bad children, what human beings these are, I keep asking myself", says kitchen assistant Cristiane Ferreira dos Santos. Before being found dead in Rio Pardo last Friday (17), José Edson was missing for three days. According to the investigation, the teenagers called a ride through a transport app and boarded in the Salgado Filho neighborhood, North Zone of Ribeirão Preto (SP), on Tuesday (14). They said that one of them put the victim in a rear naked choke. "That makes me really sick to think about, because I know he's a person who doesn't do any harm to anyone. He was just working, fighting for his bread. What they did to him was barbaric," says Cristiane. The Civil Police still suspect that José Edson was thrown alive into the river. The report from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) has not yet been ready. "I want to know what happened, if he was alive when he was thrown into the water. I know this won't bring him back, but I want an answer. I need an answer, me and his family, mother, father, sisters, everyone", says the widow.
