MPRJ blocks up to R$ 270 million due to suspected fraud in Casimiro Disclosure The Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) of the Public Ministry of Rio (MPRJ) fulfilled, this Thursday (23), a court order to sequester assets and valuables from individuals and legal entities investigated on suspicion of money laundering linked to fraud in public contracts in Casimiro de Abreu City Hall, in Baixada Litorânea. The decision was issued by the 3rd Specialized Criminal Court of the District of the Capital, at the request of the MPRJ, and determined the blocking of bank accounts and assets of those under investigation for up to R$270 million. The operation had the support of the Security and Intelligence Coordination (CSI) of the Public Ministry. According to the MPRJ, the investigation points to signs of irregularities in bidding processes, concentration of contracts in specific companies and financial movements incompatible with the economic capacity of those investigated. ? According to the Public Ministry, the company identified as the main nucleus of the alleged scheme received more than R$116 million in public resources between 2018 and 2025, through administrative contracts signed with the municipality and additional terms. The asset survey was carried out with the support of the Criminal Persecution and Asset Recovery Support Center (NAPPRA), of the MPRJ Investigative Intelligence Coordination. The Public Ministry informed that the names of the companies and those being investigated will not be disclosed because the case is being processed under secrecy and investigations are ongoing.
