Mother is investigated for attacking autistic daughter and baby at home on the coast of SP

Carlos Abelha/TV Tribuna The Civil Police are investigating a case of domestic violence against two brothers, a 5-year-old girl, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and a boy aged 1 year and 10 months, in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo. As found by g1, the children were under the care of their 23-year-old mother, who denies having committed the attacks. No one was arrested. The investigation began after the Military Police were called, on Sunday (19), by a complaint that the woman, whose identity was not disclosed, was attacking her children in a house on Avenida Rio Amazonas, in the Perequê neighborhood. The incident was registered as bodily injury, mistreatment and domestic violence at the Guarujá Police Station. ? Given the situation, the PM isolated the area and activated the Special Tactical Actions Group (GATE). During the incident, the woman's partner, father of the 1 year and 10 month old boy, arrived at the scene and helped the police officers. With the key given by him, the team entered the residence, rescued the children and removed the woman. She had to be restrained with support from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and was taken, along with her children, to the Road Emergency Care Unit (UPA).

Injured children After medical care, it was found that the 5-year-old girl had trauma to her face, bruises around her eyes, swelling, multiple abrasions and facial bleeding, injuries considered compatible with recent attacks. The baby suffered an injury to one of the fingers on his left hand. The children remained under observation for additional examinations. The Guardianship Council was contacted and ordered the institutional placement of the brothers in a halfway house to guarantee their physical and emotional integrity. Contradictory versions According to the police report, the woman presented contradictory versions in her testimony. She denied having assaulted her children, said she did not know how they got hurt and claimed to be persecuted by neighbors and people who would monitor her home. At another point, he claimed that the boy's injury had been caused by himself when handling a knife. Initially, the woman stated that she did not receive psychological or psychiatric care, but later said she participated in a support group. The police highlighted that she presented a confused and disorganized narrative during the interrogation. Her partner stated that he was working when he was notified of the incident and that he did not witness the events. According to him, the couple has lived together for around six years and the woman had never physically attacked the children. The man added that his partner has always been protective of her children, does not use drugs and that he was unaware of any psychiatric diagnosis, although he had noticed recent changes in her behavior. Investigation Despite the children having injuries and being under the care of their mother at the time of the incident, the Civil Police decided not to arrest her in the act. The police authority understood that there were no witnesses or sufficient evidence to attribute responsibility for the attacks with the necessary legal certainty. The police requested an inspection of the property, forensic examinations of the children and reported that the investigation will continue with the analysis of medical reports, forensic examinations, witness statements and the woman's mental condition on the date of the events.
